The Blue Ribbon Run is a 501C3 nonprofit organization whose purpose is to raise money for a cure for colorectal cancer, to raise awareness for prevention and to help those in our community battling colon cancer.
The Blue Ribbon Run was founded ten years ago to honor two Wilmington moms, Julie M. Brown and Christina Gianoplus, who both lost their battles at the young age of 41. The Blue Ribbon Run has established an endowment in their names at UNC-Lineberger to help find a cure for this third leading cause cancer death.
Raising awareness for this preventable cancer is of the utmost importance, as this is critical in saving lives. Knowing the signs to look for as well as being familiar with your family history can help prevent colon cancer.
In addition to finding a cure and raising awareness, the Blue Ribbon Run is grateful to be able to partner along with members of our community affected by colon cancer both financially and emotionally. Every dollar donated to the Blue Ribbon Run or made from the sponsors and participants of our race go directly to the endowment and our community. Every member on our committee is a volunteer and has been directly affected by colon cancer.
It has become our life mission to make a difference in the lives of others. Thanks for your support in our efforts.
